Congratulations to our Design Challenge winner, Shannon Schoon! Her “Crane’s Flight” necklace was voted the winner by our blog readers. Here is what inspired Shannon for this design:
“This piece was created using the Big Kick machine with an Asian inspired embossing card. I chose this design because of the beautiful crane taking off in flight and the way the lantern fit beautifully on this Vintaj blank. I am constantly inspired by Asian designs and am especially drawn to Korean style artwork because of my two youngest children, both boys adopted from South Korea. I gave this piece a turquoise patina and used a jade green ribbon that have similar colors as the ones used in painted traditional buildings in the historical district of Seoul. Korean jade was hand wired to the bottom along with crystal quartz and a lovely glass bead.“

Our Editor’s Pick for the Asian Lantern Design Challenge is Tracy Stillman and her “Storm of Mind” earrings!

Here is what inspired Tracy…
“These fire agate and Vintaj earrings were inspired by the legendary tale of the Jade Emperor in Heaven who was so angry when a village killed his favourite goose, that he wanted to destroy it with a storm of fire. The village people were warned to light lanterns throughout the town so that from the Heavens it looked as if the village was already ablaze, and subsequently they were saved.”
