Misc. Monday: 5 Hot New Craft Trends

Daily_Dialogue In honor of  National Craft Month, the CHA – Craft & Hobby Association blog posted the following information on March 15th, and I wanted to share it with you! {My comments are in bold} Spring is the perfect time to renew yourself, your style and your home with simple crafting projects. Craft & Hobby Association National Spokesperson and TV Personality Terri O shares 5 of the hottest trends in the crafting industry. CHA’s Terri O appeared last week on TV screens across the country doing a National Craft Month promotion.  Here is a link to the story and video from ABC 10 in Arizona. Click here for the complete video of the Terri O ABC Interview. #1 Terri O says the hottest new trend in crafting today is Hybrid Crafting! It is the combination of using your computer or high tech gadgets along with paper, fibers and paints. Crafty Kids include a set of 12 background papers – all 8×8 in size – suitable for various crafting projects including scrapbooking, card making and other projects. * Don’t forget to add some of our new Arte Metal Decorivets to your scrapbook pages. They are easy to use and make a big statement! #2 Crafters still like to get their hands dirty, but also want a more sophisticated look. Using your computer to create beautiful store quality cards is not new, but a company called My Life Share is making it easier. It’s the newest online card making company offering the latest in digital designs, but they print and send your cards for you. This new concept is saving digital card makers money and time. * Check out our new Vintaj Digital site, where you can download “Vintaj” inspired backgrounds, templates, rub-ons and much more. Click HERE to download a few items for FREE and learn how to use our Quick Page! (More coming soon) #3 For those who still like to make their cards from scratch will love the newest tool to hit the market called The Slice. It will cut, emboss and draw a design on your paper by just touching the screen. Each digital memory cards provides hundreds of designs. They just updated The Slice to make it hands free. You place your cutter on your paper, push a button and walk away. * I suggest adding Vintaj Fastenables to your handmade cards. Simply secure them to the paper using a brad, and you will add dimension in no time! (You can also use the Cricut to cut detailed patterns into paper as well). #4 Beginner crafters will love spring projects using Bic Mark-It Markers. No mess, no clean up. You can pencil your designs on wooden eggs and then draw. (Terri O says make sure you seal the wood first otherwise the colors will run.) * You can also use these colorful markers on our Vintaj altered blanks. Draw onto a flat blank or emboss a blank using the Cuttlebug and color in the patterns! (We have also used the Sharpie markers and the new Sharpie Paint Markers, give them a try). #5 No skill level is needed to make painted t-shirts. Terri O suggests you use a new tool called the ColorArtz Air Brush kit. You can do t-shirts, shoes bags or even home accessories. Visit Terri O’s website to see the many projects she has created since discovering this product. * Sounds like fun… Once your shirt is done try sewing on a few Vintaj Embellishments, such as a filigree butterfly, dragonfly or more! National Craft Month is the perfect time to experiment with a new craft or if you are a beginner you can try one. Most major craft stores celebrate the month by offering free or inexpensive classes or make and takes. By visiting a craft store this month you will be able to try it before you buy it. * One of my favorite craft stores is Hobby Lobby…. I can spend a whole day in there!!! Just remember you can embellish just about any craft project with Vintaj natural brass & arte metal… jewelry, home decor’, scrapbooks, cards, canvases, journals, wood boxes, lampshades, candle holders, accessories, and much more! Happy Designing! Crafting with Terri O For more craft projects, how-to videos and links to stores visit Terri O’s website.
